Kate hesitated to do The Reader

Kate Winslet, who plays a Nazi concentration camp guard who has an affair with a fifteen year old kid in The Reader, insists she had her doubts about the role. Not that she did not like it, but she feared she was not good enough an actress to carry the part with finesse. "At first, it was absolutely terrifying, I had nothing from my own life that I could compare with her. I thought, 'Do I have the chops?' Then I was like, 'Kate, stop fannying around.' Even if I didn't like her, I had to understand her," she said. However, it looks like she has the stuff after all, because her efforts have been awarded by BAFTA, Golden Globe and Screen Actors' Guild.

She did have a grey hair scare a few days ago, but that was just a passing cloud! Jennifer Aniston, who turned 40 yesterday, celebrated her birthday over the weekend at her Beverly hills home with a bunch of her dearest pals.

The man in her life, John Mayer, presented the beautiful blonde with a song he’d made especially for her. While Jen’s best pal, Courteney Cox Arquette, came forth with a heartfelt message. "More health and happiness," said Courtney who danced the evening away with Sheryl Crow, whose birthday was yesterday, too! "I can't remember the last time I did that," said Sheryl on her night of dancing at Jen’s place. "So that was a sign of a good party!"

And how is Jennifer treating the big four O? "Happy on the inside, happy on the outside," says Andrea Bendewald, a close pal to Jennifer. "She's always known how to have a good time and really live life to the fullest. I think it's a state of being. It's a state of what you think is what you are."

A picture of Miley Cyrus and her friends making funny faces by pulling their eyelids into mere slits has angered East Asians, who feel she was mocking the way they look. One of them has taken it seriously enough to file a massive 4-billion dollar class action suit against Miley Cyrus! Says Lucie J. Kim, who lives in Los Angeles, "When Cyrus posed for the photo, she knew or should have known that her image would be publicly disseminated via the media,” and since she anyway went right ahead and posed, she has to pay the price. Lucie insists that every Asian Pacific Islander is entitled to the minimum damages ($4000) for a civil rights violation, which adds up to about 4 billion dollars. Miley’s apologies seem to be falling on deaf ears and money-hungry wallets!
